My name is Norman Atterbury, and Mr IT Consulting is my one-person practice based in Calgary, Alberta. I’ve been working in technology for over two decades — long enough to see what works, what doesn’t, and what quietly takes away your control.
I’ve been a Certified Novell Engineer. I’ve been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. I’ve supported more Macs than I can count. These days, I run Linux — and recommend it wherever possible.
I don’t call myself a guru or evangelist. I help people make better choices about the tools they use. Sometimes that means cleaning up a mess; sometimes it means building something new that stays out of the way and respects their privacy.
I’ve worked with artists, tradespeople, store owners, retirees, and people who just want things to work — without being nudged, tracked, or tricked. My role is to help simplify, de-clutter, and restore trust in the tools we rely on. That might mean choosing open-source software over SaaS, or keeping things local instead of syncing everything to a cloud no one understands.
I believe in digital minimalism, quiet reliability, and giving people options they won’t hear from a typical IT provider. I’m especially cautious of the AI wave — not because I fear the tech, but because I’ve seen what happens when people hand over too much too quickly.
- I’m opinionated, but I’m not pushy.
- I’m privacy-focused, but never paranoid.
- I’m careful, curious, and practical.
If you’re a current client, you already know how I work.
If you’re not — I’m not taking on new clients right now. But you’re welcome to explore this site or find me on Bluesky, where I share thoughts on modernizing tech with privacy and intention.
